White Hill Middle School’s 7th and 8th grade choirs performed and earned top honors at the CMEA (CA Music Educators Assoc.) Choral Festival, held at the incredible Weill Hall on the campus of Sonoma State University.

Two pieces “Coro Forte” and “Bella Voce” earned UNANIMOUS SUPERIOR ratings - the highest possible achievement at a CMEA Festival!

After delivering stunning performances on a professional stage in front of three expert judges, our choirs then went to the sight-reading room to perform both rhythmic and melodic music notation with just a few minutes to study each exercise. They earned Superior ratings from the sight-reading judge as well as the three performance judges.

A few highlights from the judges' comments:

"Beautiful part work, guys - wow! I wish you fed my high school!"

"Poetically convincing, musically subtle and refined, and you have great stage presence... your intonation, your tone quality, your posture, your connection with your conductor, and your conviction as a performing ensemble are just superlative."

"Every time I've judged a festival there is always one group who makes my day. It doesn't matter how big or small they are, it's about how they perform, how they are connected to what they're singing, and their sound. Yesterday at the CMEA Festival in Weill Hall, the White Hill Middle School Bella Voce was that group! Susie Martone, Brava Tutti on an incredible performance! As a bonus, they were also one of the best group of audience members I've had the pleasure of sitting behind whilst judging. No talking, no phones, and so supportive of everyone who was on stage while they were in the audience. This is what it's all about!"

Congratulations to Susie Martone and all of our WHMS students who participated in this event and thank you for making such beautiful music!

Change of Plans for 2017-18?

Aside from our graduating 8th graders who will be moving on to high school, we always look forward to the late August return of all our currently enrolled TK-7th grade students.  Yet we understand that plans do change and families leave our District for a variety of reasons.  If you are moving this summer or otherwise planning on enrolling your child or children in a school outside of the Ross Valley School District, please be sure to notify your current RVSD school as soon as possible.  This timely information will be helpful as we plan for class configurations and staffing for the coming school year.  Also, if your family is leaving our District, we wish you all the best in the years ahead and deeply appreciate your support of our wonderful RVSD schools.  Thank you!

First Day of School and Notification of Classroom Assignments

All RVSD teachers report for pre-service days starting Wednesday, August 16th and the first day for all TK-8th grade students is Wednesday, August 23rd, 2017.

Electronic notification of students’ elementary classroom placement will be sent via email on Tuesday August 22nd.
White Hill students will receive their class schedules at the back-to-school orientation activities.  The 6th grade Wildcat welcome is Tuesday, August 22 from 9am-2:30pm.  The 7th grade kick-off assembly is Monday, August 21 from 9:30-10:30am.  The 8th grade kick-off assembly is Monday, August 21 from 11:30am-12:30pm.  Stay tuned for more information from White Hill.

If your email address has changed from what we currently have on file, please be sure to communicate with your child’s school so your updated email address is correctly entered into our system.

2017-18 Calendar

The 2017-18 RVSD school calendar is posted to our website and may be accessed here.  Note that in order to align our major breaks with the rest of the school districts in Marin County, we will begin winter break on Friday, December 22, 2017 and spring break on Monday, April 9, 2018.  We hope to post the 2018-19 calendar as soon as possible in the coming year so everyone will have it well in advance.

RVSD – A Beautiful Magical Place to Be!

We are thrilled to share with you our very first district video which was inspired and created by two of our RVSD parents, Nancy Main and Jennifer Gonzalez. This short film features several teachers and administrators as well as a number of students, each sharing their reflections on what makes RVSD special to them.  We are so grateful to Nancy and Jennifer for all the time, effort and talent they devoted to this project. I hope you will agree they’ve masterfully captured much of what Brookside kindergarten teacher, Rebecca Hayhurst, refers to in describing RVSD as a “beautiful magical place to be!”

In Closing

This week we bring 2016-17 to a successful close, and I want to once again thank you on behalf of our Board of Trustees and everyone in RVSD for the privilege of working with your amazing children. They inspire us to reach new heights in all we do, enriching our teaching and learning along the way.  Thank you also for your thoughtful, generous, caring and passionate support of our schools and for being such an important part of our larger RVSD family.

Congratulations once again to all our graduates and thanks to everyone for another terrific year. Have a wonderful summer!

Best,

Rick

The foundations are being wrapped up, new concrete sidewalks are being poured, and the 13 modular building sections are in the midst of being delivered. The modular buildings are manufactured in California and transported from the
Central Valley on flatbed tractor trailer trucks. Due to the size and logistics, only two modular components are delivered each day causing traffic delays primarily on Butterfield Road.

Since RVSD adopted the 2016-17 calendar in February 2015, efforts were subsequently initiated by Marin County districts to create a calendar that is as aligned as possible, particularly with regard to high school and their elementary feeder districts which should make things much simpler for families with students in both systems.  At the May 3, 2016 Board meeting, a revised calendar was approved for next school year.  We apologize for any inconvenience that the changes may cause.  The good news is that Marin County districts have begun working on coordinating calendars for the three years following 2016-17.
