Dear RVSD Community,
A few months ago I sent you an email highlighting the importance of vaccinations against infectious diseases which can quickly spread and present serious health risks to those who do not have them. Since then, an outbreak of measles has occurred, with 68 confirmed cases in California alone during this new year.
Below this message you'll see an important letter from Dr. Matt Willis, Public Health Officer for Marin County. I strongly urge you to take a few minutes to read Dr. Willis’ letter, so you will have an even better understanding of how we plan to respond should there be any confirmed cases of measles here in Marin.
I previously shared the PBS NOVA video “Vaccines-Calling the Shots,” which specifically discusses measles. If you’ve not seen this very informative video, now would be a good time to do so. Here is the link: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/body/vaccines-calling-shots.html
Our RVSD school nurse, Laurel Yrun and Director of Student Services, Teri Louer, are closely monitoring this situation and though we hope there will be no reported cases of measles in our District, please know we will act quickly and decisively if or when the situation changes.
Please let me, Laurel or Teri know if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Rick Bagley, Ed.D.
