Dear White Hill Families,
It’s that time of year again – time to give us your feedback on how you think we are doing! Access our annual parent survey at White Hill 2013-14 Parent Survey. If you have more than one child attending White Hill Middle School this year, please answer the survey questions with one child in mind and then take the survey again with the other child in mind, answering only the questions marked with an asterisk for your other child/ren.
Your feedback is very important! It helps us continue to do what works and improve where we can do better! Please complete your survey by 3 p.m. on Monday, May 12th.
For several years, Marin County has held one of the top spots in the California for alcohol and substance use and abuse – for all age groups. Our children use and abuse substances more than kids in any other county in our state. Data also shows that adults in Marin use alcohol at higher rates than nearly every other county in our state.
This pervasiveness of drug and alcohol use has the highest potential for long-term or fatal consequences for our children. New research shows that the earlier the experimentation, the greater chance for alcohol or drug dependence later in life and brain scan technology shows that chemicals have apermanent effect on the developing brain.
The good news? School-aged children can benefit from prevention and intervention strategies based upon education, dialogue, and the support and healthy modeling by parents, at schools, and in the community at large. Our community is taking action through a group of citizens representing city government, education, administration, law enforcement, business, youth services, faith-based organizations, students, and parents who formed a coalition.
We invite and encourage every family to attend one of two upcoming community meetings to learn more about how this problem is affecting our children and what you can do to help. A panel of Drake students and local experts will be available to answer questions. For more information see the event flyer or visit www.facebook.com/rossvalleycoalition.
