What are my choices for lunch?
The daily menu offers between 4-6 hot entrees and between 10-12 cold entrees. Nutritional and allergen information can be filtered when registering your child for lunch. In addition to the main entrée, your student will choose on site from a selection of fruits and vegetables, snacks, and beverages. Portion size options are regular (elementary schools and middle school) or large (middle school), depending on the entrée.

Is breakfast available?
No, we currently do not serve breakfast.

What are my milk choices?
Milk will be served with each lunch.  At the time of service, your child will have the option of choosing 1% milk or non-fat milk. You will not be able to specify when you order what your child will drink since this decision is made on site by your student.  To receive soy milk, federal regulations require that we have a medical form completed by the doctor which states that your child is allergic to cow’s milk in order for us to serve your child soy milk. Please contact Jennifer Wright (see below) to receive this medical form.

Can I order milk only?
Not at this time.

The Ross Valley School District began its Transitional Kindergarten program at the start of the 2012-13 school year. This program is required by the Kindergarten Readiness Act of 2010 (SB1381), which changes the age at which children are egligible to attend Kindergarten.

For the 2013-14 school year, children must be 5 years old by October 1st to start Kindergarten. For the 2014-15 school year, children will have to be 5 by September 1st to enroll in Kindgerten. Every year thereafter, a child must be 5 years old by September 1st to enroll in Kindergarten

In addition to changing eligibilty age for Kindergarten, the Kindergarten Readiness act also requires all California school districts to provide a Transitional Kindergarten program for children who will be affected by this change. Transitional Kindergarten offers children with birthdays between September and December an opportunity to continue building their skills and abilities. Their time in Transitional Kindergarten will help them to succeed in Kindergarten, become leaders in the classroom and confidently navigate the school day routine.

Registration forms and instructions are available on our Transitional Kindergarten enrollment page. Additional information and FAQs about Transitional Kindergarten are available from the California Department of Education.

Below are descriptions of and the latest reports and results for the following:

School Accountability Report Cards (SARCS)
STAR Testing
Phyical Fitness Tests
Healthy Kids Survey

School Accountability Report Cards (SARCS)

California public schools are required to provide information about themselves to the community in the form of an annual SARC. These report cards  allow the public to evaluate and compare schools based on the following data:

  • demographic information
  • school safety and climate for learning
  • academic data
  • class size
  • teacher and staff information
  • curriculum and instruction
  • fiscal and expenditure data

SARCs are issued in June and report on the previous academic year. For example, the SARC issued in June 2013 provides information on the 2011-12 school year. SARCs are published in a format provided by the California Department of Education and are available below as downloadable PDF files.

Brookside Elementary School SARC 2011-12
Hidden Valley Elementary School SARC 2011-12
Manor Elementary School SARC 2011-12
Wade Thomas Elementary School SARC 2011-12
White Hill Middle School SARC 2011-12

Standard Testing and Reporting (STAR)

The STAR assesses student knowledge of grade level content as well as state content standards. Students in the 4th through 7th grade participate in a STAR writing test and students in grades 2 through 11 participate in a STAR multiple choice test. STAR results are available at the District Office or online at the California Department of Education's STAR website.

Physical Fitness Test (PFT)
The PFT, completed by students in the spring of their 5th, 7th and 9th grades, provides information that can be used by students to assess and plan personal fitness programs, by teachers to design the  of physical education program curriculum, and by parents/guardians to understand their children’s fitness levels.  Ross Valley also offers other local measures of achievement.

Healthy Kids Survey

The Healthy Kids Survey is a comprehensive and customizable youth survey that provides essential and reliable health risk assessment and resilience information to schools, districts, and communities.

The District is required to administer the California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS) to all 5th- and 7th-grade students every two years. The Healthy Kids Survey meets the assessment requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) for Title IV Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities. Parent permission was required to participate.
