The District provides high-quality education for all students, including those with disabilities. All individuals with disabilities have the right to receive a free and appropriate public education (FAPE). The District provides special education instructions and services in accordance with the Federal Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA).
After following our district process and developing an Individual Education Plan (IEP), students with special educational needs and disabilities are placed in the least restrictive environment that meets their needs. Our programs and resources include the following:
Resource Center
The Resource Center provides supplemental instruction in a small group setting. Students work to meet their IEP goals, increase academic performance, develop learning strategies and learn advocacy skills for success in mainstream classes. Resource Centers are located at each of our school sites.
Learning Center
The Learning Center provides direct instruction in a self-contained setting for academic subjects such as English and math. Students work to meet their IEP goals in the area of academics, behavioral/social and transitional. The District operates a K-5 Learning Center located at the Hidden Valley campus and a middle school Learning Center at White Hill Middle School.
Designated Instructional Services
Designated Instructional Services are supplementary student services that are related to their identified disabilities. Examples include speech and language services, occupational therapy and services for the hard of hearing or visually impaired.
School Psychologists
Our school psychologists are responsible for conducting all assessments for students when they are initially referred for special education, as well triennial reviews for students with IEPs. Each school site has a psychologist who provides these assessment services and also provides staff consultation services.
An Individual Education Plan (IEP) is developed at an IEP meeting that includes the active participation of the student (when appropriate) and parents. The IEP team together develops a written IEP that:
