Dear White Hill Families,
Here's to a great 3-day weekend! Enjoy yourselves and be safe. A short Wrap this week!
Sincerely,
David
Our 7th- and 8th-grade teachers want to express their great appreciation to all the parent volunteers who helped to make this year's Renaissance Day and Civil War Day smashing successes. We were successful because of your help. A special thank you to Jen Venne who served as co-coordinator for Civil War Day. And a bow and a flourish to our own Aggie Favaloro who coordinated Renaissance Day and co-coordinated Civil War Day. Thank you so much!
Congratulations to all of the White Hill ensembles that participated in the Music in the Parks Festival on Saturday, May 10!
The 6th-Grade String Ensemble, 7th/8th-Grade Orchestra, and Chamber Orchestra were all awarded 1st place in their respective divisions, and were all graded "Excellent" by the adjudicators. Mrs. Montgomery was very proud of all the performers, and special mentions should go to violinists David Lee and Simon van Deursen for their beautiful solos.
The Advanced Wind Ensemble was awarded 3rd place with a very difficult music repertoire. Jazz 2 was given a score of "Excellent" and 2nd place. Jazz 1 received 1st place with a score of "Superior". An extra congratulations goes to Daniel Michels who received "Overall Outstanding Jazz Soloist"!
Concert Choir, Chorale, and Chamber Choir all received "Superior" ratings and 1st place in their categories. Special recognition was awarded to Chorale who earned 1st place overall for all middle school and junior high choirs in the festival!
Hello Ross Valley Families,
I wanted to take a moment to thank all of you for your continued support of the YES Theater program. Thanks to you, we had a very successful 2013-2014 season. We were thrilled to add a new show at Brookside Elementary School with a total of 7 productions this year and over 450 student participants. Our program's success is only possible because of YOU and the incredible volunteer participation from our talented community.
As we begin planning for the 2014-2015 season, I would like to invite you to join me in preparing for another great year. If your family will be continuing on in the Ross Valley School District and will be participating in YES Theater, please consider becoming apart of our leadership team. Have input on show choices, impact program policy and help facilitate proactive change. Advanced planning is the key to a successful season.
Site Producers, Volunteer Coordinators, Kid Tech Coordinators, we need YOU! Join the Theater Arts Committee and help us have the best year ever while getting to know thefamilies in your community in a fun and meaningful way.
Please email me if you are interested in joining our team. Thank You,
China Tamblyn Cunniffe

Hello Ross Valley Community,
We are on the home stretch with only 3 weeks left until the end of the school year. Please remember to check your students schedule for upcoming field trips, so that you can cancel their Choice Lunch order for that day if needed. On June 11th, last day of school, we will have a Choice Lunch delivery. If you want your child to receive a lunch that day, please remind them to pick it up before they leave school. We find that the kids are so excited for summer to start, they often forget their lunch order. I will ask each school site to help by making an announcement before the final rings.
White Hill has an ALL school field trip on Tuesday, June 10th. Foor will be served at every venue. Please remember to cancel your lunch orders for that day.
Thank you and have a wonderful Summer Vacation,
Lisa Sabia
Food Service Coordinator

Fairfax Library’s teen summer reading program, Paws to Read, is using a BINGO card this year instead of an online program. The good news is - no reviews to write!
BINGO squares can be completed by reading a book or doing another specified activity, like attending a library event or visiting a museum. Teens get a raffle ticket for each completed square.
Weekly prizes are Giants tickets and $15 gift cards to local businesses. There are also 2 grand prize raffles at Fairfax Library for $50 Visa cards and a countywide raffle at the end of the program for an iPad Mini.
In addition there are free events: Henna Art (6/25); Light-up Duct Tape Wallets, Purselets or Cell Phone Holders (7/8); Bottle Cap and Dog Tag Creations (7/19); and Build a LEGO® Solar Car (7/22). These are popular so early sign-up is suggested!
The program, for students going into grades 6-12, runs from May 31 through August 2. To get started, students can come to the library to get a BINGO card and a free book to keep while supplies last.
Why Summer Reading is Important
More kids partake in public library summer reading programs each year than play Little League baseball.
· Reading 5 books over the summer prevents learning loss, according to a White House Study.
· Young people can lose 2-3 months of progress in reading achievement over the summer.
· Kids who participate in library summer reading programs are better prepared for the next school year.
· Libraries encourage reading as a lifelong habit.
· Library programs offer free, constructive, supervised enrichment activities where kids can socialize.
