Dear Parents/Guardians:

As you already know, there have been recent confirmed cases of measles in Marin County. According to our health records, you have submitted a Personal Beliefs Exemption (“PBE”) waiver. The County of Marin Health and Human Services Department has informed the District that the best way to prevent measles is to receive the MMR vaccine.

Due to the current measles outbreak in California, Ross Valley School District is currently in the process of updating student immunization records. If your child has received additional immunizations, please submit to the school office an updated immunization record, as soon as possible.

Under California law, a parent/guardian may complete and submit a PBE exempting their child from  all/some of the required immunizations.  Unimmunized students are at greater risk of contracting diseases and spreading them to their families, schools and communities.

Please be aware that the Personal Exemption Form has a section that indicates students who are exempt from immunizations may be excluded from attending school during an outbreak of, or after exposure to, any of these diseases for the protection of the student and others (Title 17, California Code of Regulations § 6060).  In the event that there is measles outbreak, The County of Marin Health and Human Service Department will make the decision if it is necessary to exclude students from attending school for 21 days in order to protect those children not immunized and limit further spread of the disease.
