Parent Conference Week - November 13-17
Dismissal time for Parent Conference week is 2:10 pm each day. Periods 00 and 0 will still meet Monday through Friday.
Our next Coffee Chat is this Friday, 11/17. The start time is a bit earlier at 8:45 am. We will meet in Room 108.
As a faculty, we are evaluating school-wide practices related to respectful behaviors, accountability, and responsibility for learning. These are conversations we are having with students and are also having at Parent Club, Site Council and Parent Chat meetings.
We believe that continually raising the bar for respectful behavior and accountability for learning is part of a growth mindset that helps students become more responsible learners. Our students understand that the classroom is a sacred place, and are working with us to ensure that interruptions of the instructional process are minimized. Similarly, outside the classroom, horseplay, grabbing, and playing chase are potentially dangerous behaviors that are being consistently addressed and stopped. Restorative justice circles with students and teachers are working very well and producing positive results. Ultimately, White Hill students are being empowered to take more responsibility for their instruction, actions and words. Please join our parent meetings to participate in conversations about these important topics.
Once the cold weather arrives, we will open and supervise the gym in the morning for students to have a dry and warm place before class begins.
Congratulations to Stanislav Tananaev, Emalene Harwood, and Piper Cothran who successfully
competed in the Marin County Championship Spelling Bee last weekend. Thanks for the hard work and for representing White Hill at this event.
The minutes from our first meeting are posted on the White Hill website. Our next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, December 7 at 8:30 am in the Library. Parents are encouraged to participate in this important organization.
Very expensive articles of clothing are picked up on campus every day and placed in our Lost and Found. Students are encouraged to get their belongings from the Lost and Found near the office. However, most of the items remain unclaimed. We are running out of space to house the shirts, jackets, sweatshirts, etc., for much longer. With the cold and rainy weather coming it’s our hope that these items will be picked up. Otherwise, they will eventually be ruined. Please note that on Friday, November 17, we will be taking these items to the Goodwill.
White Hill yearbooks are on sale now through December 21, 2017, the last school day before the Winter Break. Order your child's yearbook at the special price of $38.00 using the online link below. The yearbook is a long time tradition at White Hill and it is entirely student-designed in the Yearbook & Graphic Arts elective class. The goal is to feature photographs of all White Hill students and capture images of the fun events on our campus throughout the year. Yearbooks are hard-cover, full color photographs, and include an autograph section. They are a fabulous keepsake and make a great gift for your White Hill student. http://jostensyearbooks.com/?REF=A00597768 Check out the linked order sheet for full instructions. Use your child's name and their 6º Advisory class teacher's name when you enter information. Financial assistance for partial scholarships and a limited number of full scholarships are available. For financial assistance information, please use the attached form and return to the White Hill Office. Prefer to order by check? There is a $4.00 processing fee for check purchases which brings the cost to $42.00. If you are writing a check, use the order form and return to the WH Office. Forms are also available at school. Children for Change
What’s going on this month with C4C?
Thank you to all of the parents and children who ventured out to Oakland in the rain to experience the Forced from Home exhibit. What a powerful experience it was for all learning and feeling first hand what it’s like to be a refugee. Although, the exhibit has moved onto LA, take some time to explore their website and talk with your child(ren) about this very important issue in our world today. With the recent fires, it really is a topic that hits close to home.
