Dear White Hill Families,
Here's to a healthy, safe, and wonderful holiday break! On behalf of our entire White Hill Staff, we wish you only the best this season and look forward (well, after we take a nice long break!) to seeing your kids again on the morning of January 7th. Important information: The bell schedule starting on January 7th will change - all kids (grades 6-8) will eat together. We will no longer have a 6th grade lunch and a 7/8th grade lunch. The kids will still eat in designated areas but now that our campus is wide open we intend to let the kids and staff enjoy one another's company during lunch. See below for a link to our new bell schedule. Reminder: No school on January 6th - Staff Development Day for all RVSD schools!
PLEASE NOTE: Ross Valley Emergency School Closure Hotline is 721-4751. As winter approaches, keep this number in your phone for updates in case our schools are closed due to power outages, flooding, etc.
When we all return to school on January 7th, 2014, the 6th grade will have the same bell schedule as the 7th and 8th grades, which makes life easier for all of us! See the Bell Schedule page for more information.
Congratulations to our White Hill Jazz 1 ensemble! Jazz 1 recently competed in the Delta Jazz Festival where they received Unanimous Superiors from their adjudicators and took 2nd place. Our Jazz 1 not only represented our school well in performance, but in their attitude through the entire day. Mr. Jacks was beaming with pride and our whole school is proud of this talented group of musicians.
Earlier this month, our entire 7th-grade class had a chance to participate in a hands-on service learning day that involved community park clean-up, the creation of a town youth center and other physical/musical activities. The purpose of service learning is to engage youth in community involvement and, in the process, learn to cooperate and dialogue on personal strengths and weaknesses. We received overwhelmingly positive feedback from many 7th graders and Roots To Branches started an after-school homework hangout at the Fairfax Community Center that is runs 2:30 - 5 p.m. each Wednesday afternoon.

My name is Benny Dal Porto and I am in 7th grade at White Hill. My Bar Mitzvah is coming up in January and for my Mitzvah project I decided to collect new and gently used sports equipment and donate it to Marin Foster Care. If anyone is interested in making a donation, please bring it to the office by the end of the day Friday. If you are unable to bring it to school please, let me or my mom know and we can come pick it up over the break. It can be any kind of sports equipment for any sport including but not limited to cleats, balls, pads, helmets, cones, bats, and any other gear you can think of.
Thank you very much for any donations,
Benny

Tracy Turnblad's dream is to dance on The Corny Collins Show, a local TV dance program. When she wins a role on the show, she becomes a celebrity overnight and meets a colorful array of characters, such as Corny Collins (The show's singing host who shares Tracy's liberal political views) and Velma Von Tussle (The villainous producer of the show who does everything in her power to further her daughter's career and destroy Tracy's and Corny's). With the help of Seaweed, Link, Penny, Motormouth Maybelle, her father and Edna, Tracy decides she's going to integrate the show.....without denting her 'do! Hairspray is a social commentary on the injustices of parts of American society in the 1960s.
This is going to be a great show. See the attached document for registration details or reigster today at www.yestheater.org.
